FOURTH OF JULY BBQ
Magic Hour Family! Got no plans on Fourth of July? Wanna avoid the crowds while making connections, networking with other film / camera nerds, and relaxing while eating delicious food? Come to the Magic Hour Fourth of July BBQ! We will be grilling up some tasty burgers and hot dogs, but we invite you to bring whatever you like (toppings, drinks, meat, sides, desserts, booze, your current situationship) potluck style! Come grill the night away with your three favorite homeboys while making conversation about this crazy industry and our current passion projects that will totally be released soon! I promise!
Pull up to 1460 Yosemite Drive from 4pm until LATE and lets boogie to the birth of this foul nation. Spread the word!

CINEGEAR 2025
Cine Gear Expo 2025 was a major motion picture on demand cinematic film hybrid analog digital event, and we attended. First off, shoutout to BLKBRD for hosting us at their booth and utilizing Magic Hour gear to show off their new MANTIS support accessory! You may have seen their demos floating around Instagram Reels, it’s a great piece of kit and we’re excited to announce that it is available to rent from Magic Hour Rentals now!

NEW GEAR
BLAZAR MANTIS 1.33x ANAMORPHICS
Next month we’ll be getting a set of brand new Blazar Anamorphic Lenses! These are a set of super affordable (Which means lower rental price) but high quality anamorphics that are SUPER small and light, and pack all the look of a 2x Anamorphic into a 1.33x package. They do this by way of utilizing oval shaped aperture blades, a super creative way to add that vintage anamorphic character with much less of a squeeze factor. Perfect for shooting on 16×9 sensors with no cropping. We can’t wait to get hands on and show off some test footage!

PRAYING MANTIS
 | Continuing with the Mantis theme, we also found this neat praying mantis in our back yard recently. He don’t do much but he’s friendly enough. Technically, this bug is available for rent. |
RONIN 4D
We now have The Ronin 4D 6K package available for rent! If you haven’t already heard of the Ronin 4D I’ll break it down. It’s a camera and a gimball all in one; the “4” in 4D refers to the 4 axis stabilization the gimbal provides via a chicken neck style extra Z axis motor. This smooths out those annoying walking movements caused by traditional 3 axis gimbals. This camera is wildly unique and really special. Our upcoming Blazar Anamorphics are compatible and light enough to work with the 4D!

NUCLEUS M II
The Nucleus was an instant classic, and we now have a long overdue update to one of the most ubiquitous tools to grace the small shoot market like ever.
Backwards compatible with motors, electronic marking disc, support for controlling camera settings on a new touch screen interface, Sony L-series batteries (no more constantly losing the damn 18650s), DJI ecosystem compatible for controlling motors on our Ronin 4D or Ronin RS4, and lots more improvements.

Guys, we FINALLY did it, I’m pleased to announce that Magic Hour Rentals has acquired a brand new SDI cable. In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Everything seems impossible until it is done.” And y’all? It is done. Come take this new cable for a spin sometime. |  |
PROJECT SPOTLIGHT
One of our missions at Magic Hour Rentals is to be a cornerstone of independent filmmaking in Los Angeles. We especially love to help budding filmmakers bring their passion projects across the finish line. This time on the project spotlight, we’d like to shout out AVALANCHE by Big Dog Little Dog Films:
AVALANCHE is a Final Fantasy fan film directed by Millie Cupp. Magic Hour Rentals provided camera and lens equipment to this small-budget fan film. Millie contacted us and pitched the idea, and we loved her vision and wanted to bring it to life. A lot was packed in here, for those who made it to the end I— well, color me impressed. I think we’ve more than lived up to our promise of not flooding your inbox with constant newsletters considering the last one was months ago! Whoops! Hah! My bad, gang!
Anyway, closing thoughts: We’ve talked a lot about what’s been going on at Magic Hour, but in our home of Los Angeles, a lot of heinous things have been taking place. It’s important to stay compassionate and supportive to your friends and your broader community more than ever right now. As ICE descends upon our city to abduct members of our community often illegally and with no due process, It’s been heartwarming to see the city resist this terrible regime and its cronies; but the fight has just begun.
We as a city and a nation cannot let what ICE is doing be the new normal. Keep fighting, keep speaking up, and stay vigilant. We encourage you to do everything you can to exercise your right to free speech and continue to oppose erosions of civil liberties during these times.
